  • When is Wood Badge?

flag_mcclure1005Wood Badge is for all leaders that want to improve the Scouting program.

This is the highest level of adult training in the BSA. We encourage all leaders to attend and refresh your batteries while building your leadership skills to enhance the program in your unit, District, or Council.  That means Den Leaders, Troop Committee members, Varsity Team Asst. Coaches, Crew leaders, and everyone in between.

Wood Badge is for you.

What are the Aims and Methods of Scouting?

What lasting impact will your leadership have today on the youth you influence, 10-20 years down the road?

Where did "Game with a Purpose" come from and what does it mean? What are the various Aims and Methods of Scouting? What are those core values, the vision of the Boy Scouts of America, and its mission? What does it mean for us as volunteers? Which ones have changed and which ones haven't?

How have generational differences had a big impact on the methods of communications between volunteers and youth? What can you do to effect clear communications? Solve problems between Scouts or volunteers? What pulls us together? How can you effectively lead by getting out of the way?

All this and more is experienced and discussed at Wood Badge.

Leadership that makes a difference. You will make a difference. You can be that leader.

What to Prepare

Getting ready for Wood Badge is pretty simple. Complete the twenty questions personal exercise here. This will help you start thinking about your own vision for your role in Scouting and how you can help your Unit, District, or Council. This is the application phase of Wood Badge commonly known to as "The Ticket".  In your ticket, you apply what you learn in the six day practical phase of the course. Closer to the course, start speaking with those who can give you access to that help. In your Unit that might be your Committee Chair, or in the District, your District Chair, District Commissioner, or District Executive.

Provide our staff Scribes with a copy of your BSA medical form (signed and current as of the last day of the course by a certified and licensed physician [MD, DO], nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant - required for Wood Badge)
